LEO Global Logistics Public Company Limited (LEO) proudly announces the successful launch of the ” LaneXang Express “, an international rail freight service operated by its joint venture with Sri Trang Logistics and Baothai Index Associates. The inaugural train of this China-Laos-Thailand-Malaysia route departed from Chengdu International Railway Station, carrying 30 containers of goods including chemicals, LCD displays, and new energy vehicles, bound for Port Klang in Malaysia.
This marks a significant milestone in regional trade connectivity, cutting transportation time by up to 50% compared to traditional sea freight, and is expected to fuel exponential growth in LEO’s rail freight revenues in 2024.
Mr. Kettivit Sittisoontornwong, CEO of LEO Global Logistics, revealed that LaneXang Express Co., Ltd. (LXE), the joint venture company, was entrusted by China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd. (CRCT) — a leading Chinese state-owned enterprise — to coordinate the cargo transfer from China through Laos and Thailand to Malaysia.
LXE manages coordination with customs, railway authorities, and other relevant agencies across three countries, ensuring seamless end-to-end rail logistics. The first shipment included 20 x 40HQ containers of chemicals and LCDs transported under a Rail-to-Rail model all the way to Malaysia.
The inaugural freight train left Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Southwest China, and traveled via the China-Laos Railway, then connected through the Laos-Thailand railway network to reach Port Klang, Malaysia. The entire journey took 7 days to reach Laos and Thailand, and an additional 8 days to Malaysia, totaling 15 days, which is about 50% faster than traditional ocean freight from Qinzhou Port in Guangxi, Southern China.
This new rail route is set to enhance economic and trade ties between China, Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia, and bolster trade between Sichuan Province and Southeast Asia.
“This collaboration strengthens business connectivity in the Greater Mekong Subregion through the Laos-China Railway, which forms part of both the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Pan-Asia Railway Network, offering high-potential intercontinental links between Asia and Europe,” Mr. Kettivit said.
LaneXang Express is fully equipped to offer seamless rail transport services, addressing customer needs from origin to destination. This enhances LEO’s capacity and competitiveness in international rail logistics while also supporting the company’s “Green Logistics” strategy by promoting low-carbon transportation solutions.
LEO will oversee strategic planning, marketing, and sales, positioning its rail freight segment for significant revenue growth starting from Q2–Q3 of 2024.
